Williard J. Adkisson was born 28 March 1920 in Hoxie, Arkansas. Prior to military service, he was a farmer and was married.
He entered the Army 24 June 1941 at Camp Robinson, Arkansas and left the States for the European Theater 12 December 1942. He was assigned as a light truck driver and was in the battles in Algerian French Morocco; Tunsia; Southern France; the Rhineland; Naples – Foggia; Central Europe and the Rome – Arno Campaigns. Williard was wounded 10 July 1943 in Sicily and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.
Williard returned to the States 11 August 1945 and was discharged 20 August 1945 at Camp Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.
In addition to the Purple Heart Medal, Williard J. Adkisson received eight Bronze Stars; the Good Conduct Medal; a Distinguished Unit Badge; the American Defense Service Ribbon; the EAME Theater Campaign Ribbon with a Bronze Service Arrowhead; the Croix de Guerre with Palm Medal and five Overseas Bars.
