      Allen Edward Akins was born 22 May 1925 in Parkin, Arkansas, the fifth and last son of Oscar and Fannie E. Robinson Akins.   Edward grew up with four older brothers and one sister.  He attended several schools in Cross County.   Edward enlisted in the Marines on 21 October 1941 in Little Rock, Arkansas; he trained at M. C. Recruit Depot, San Diego, California.  He left the States in August 1942 and participated in occupation and defense against the enemy at Guadalcanal and British Solomon Islands from January 1943 to October 1943. He participated in the assault and capture of Guam from July 1944 to August 1944; participated in action against the enemy at Iwo Jima from 20 February 1945 to 18 March 1945; then returned to the United States in August 1945 and was discharged 1 November 1945.
    Edward reenlisted in the Marine Corps in September 1946 and was discharged 4 September 1949. He had earned the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with four Stars, Good Conduct Medal with 1 Star, American Defense Medal, American Theater Medal, Navy Unit Citation with Star, P.U.C. with 1 Star, and World War II Victory Medal.
    On 23 April 1949, he married his wife, Camille at El Toro Marine Station. They are the parents of one son and three daughters.  After his discharge, he and his family moved to Dearborn, Michigan. In Dearborn, he was employed as a construction equipment operator and as an electrician.  He did not retire from the Local 58 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers until June 1987.
    Edward now enjoys a happy and healthy life with his wife in Plymouth, Michigan. He enjoys reading as a past time.
