James Gordon "Jim" Akins was born 11 March at Birdeye, Arkansas, the son of Gordon and Nettie Davis Akins. The other children in his family were Boyd, Taulane, Maxine,
Ima, Mary Lou and Neva. Jim attended Parkin and Birdeye Schools and worked on the farm.
Jim's Army Service began 4 October 1944 and he was discharged 19 July 1947. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon, two Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Army Occupation Medal, the Japan Victory Ribbon and three Overseas Service Bars.
Jim married Dorothy M. Humphrey and they were the parents of six children. He was employed as an auto body repairman. Dorothy said, "He was a wonderful husband and father. We were married 47-1/2 years."
James Gordon Davis died 14 March 1997 and was buried in Forrest Hills Cemetery, Memphis, Tennessee.
