William Page Akins was born 24 September 1911 in Wynne,
Arkansas, the first child Oscar S. and Fannie E. Akins. He grew up with four
brothers, Charles 0., Oliver R., Francis R. "Cubby", and Allen E. Akins and one
sister, Beauton. He attended rural schools in Levesque, Parkin, Colt, and Smith
Chapel. Page worked for C.C.C. Arkansas District during the 1930's.
He joined the U.S. Navy on 12 November 1942 and served until 31 September
1945. He went to Radar Operators School in Memphis, Tennessee, AMM School and ATTC
School in Chicago, Illinois, and was an Aviation Machinist's Mate (H) Second Class in
California. Upon his discharge from the Navy he received a Letter of Commendation
from the Secretary of Navy, James Forrestal, on 6 October 1945.
Page married Willie Edna Grisham and their children are William
Page Akins, Jr. and Martha E. Akins Coon. He joined the Air National Guard in
October 1946 and served until his retirement in December 1968.
William Page Akins, Sr. died 8 September 1984 while attending
church. He was buried in Edgewood Cemetery in North Little Rock, Arkansas.
