Walter Carl Anderson was born 19
February 1917 to Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Anderson of Cherry Valley , Arkansas. He grew up there
and attended local schools. One friend remembered his love of fast cars and racing.
He would race along the gravel roads at top speed.
Corporal Anderson was killed in action in Korea, 31 July 1950.
He was first reported missing, but confirmation of his death was received later by
his family.
Walter served five years in the Philippines and New Guinea in
World
War II, and was discharged at the end of the war. He reenlisted in May 1949.
At the time of his reenlistment he was employed by Western Union in Little Rock, Arkansas.
He was survived by his father, M. H. Anderson, four brothers,
M. H.
Anderson, Jr., and. A .S. Anderson of McGehee, C. L. Anderson of Brinkley and G. T.
Anderson of Green Cove Springs, Florida; and two sisters, Mrs. E. E. Hall of Wynne, and
Mrs. J. K. Gregory of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
