            William Bernice Gailey was born 17 April 1891 in the Hamlin community in Cross County, Arkansas, the son of John and Annie Robertson Gailey.    He had two sisters, Lillian and Lola.    Prior to entering military service Bernice worked as a bookkeeper and on the farm.
          Bernice was 27 years old when he entered the Army 28 May 1918 at Wynne, Arkansas.   He was assigned in the Mobilization Camp Examining Station (Medical Corps) until 15 April 1919 when he was discharged at Camp Pike, Arkansas.
          He returned to Cross County and married Rosa Stutts and they had one daughter, Faye.    Bernice resumed farming and operated a general store.
          William Bernice Gailey died 17 January 1938 and was buried in Union Grove Cemetery near the Hamlin community.
