           Claude Pearson Garner, Jr. was born 25 April 1959 at McCrory, Arkansas, the son of Claude, Sr. and Nellie Valdner Garner.   He has seven sisters: Nancy, Claudia, Sue, Frances, Jeannie, Betty and Peggy.   Claude graduated at McCrory High School in the class of 1977 and attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello for one year.   He joined the Army National Guard 26 August 1976 at Augusta, Arkansas.   Claude converted to full time employment in the Guard in July 1983 as a civil service technician (GS-O7) as the Unit Administrator.   He changed over to active duty for the Guard on 1 May 1984 at Augusta and was there until December 1993. Then he was transferred to Newport, Arkansas as a Training NCO. In December 1994, he assumed recruiting duty for Cross and Woodruff Counties with headquarters in Wynne.
          On 22 December 1979, Claude married Salley Sue Carlew and they have five children: Rusty, Thomas, Alicia, Brittany and Nicholas.
          Up to this date (May 2003) Claude has received the following medals and citations: Army Commendation Medal; 2nd OLC, Army Achievement Medal; 3rd Awd., Good Conduct Medal; 3rd Award, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal; 2nd Awd., National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal; 2nd Awd., NCO Professional Development Ribbon; #3, Army Service Ribbon, Army Res. Compo Overseas Tng. Ribbon; 2nd Awd., Army National Guard Emer. Service Ribbon; 2nd, Army National Guard Recruiting Badge; Master, Arkansas Service Ribbon; 4th Awd.
          Claude remains in his recruiting assignment at the National Guard Armory in Wynne. He enjoys hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
