Raymond N. Gesell was born 7 April 1917 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Prior to his military service, Raymond was a Time Keeper. He was inducted into the Army at Little Rock 18 July 1942. After Officers Training, he was given a commission as Second Lieutenant. He left the States 12 September 1944 for the European Asian Middle East Theater of Operation. He participated in the Central Europe and Rhineland Campaigns during the thrust into Germany. He later became Adjutant 2110 and attained the rank of Captain. During the battle for the Rhineland, he was wounded 25 December 1944. He left the EAME 23 September 1945 and arrived in the States 30 September 1945. After eleven months of stateside service, he returned to EAME 24 August 1946 and served there for six months. He arrived back in the States 4 J anuary 1947 and was discharged 9 March 1947 at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He had earned the Rhineland Campaign Medal, the Bronze Star, the World War II Victory Medal, the Army Occupation Medal, the Combat Infantry Man Badge and the Purple Heart.
