Charlie (Chuck) Marshall Glass was born 8 March 1921in Vicksburg, Indiana, the son of Charlie and Maggie McCullough
Glass. He had seven brothers: Gilbert; Nicholas; Woodrow; Thomas; Murel; George and John plus two sisters: Vera and Mary Frances.
Charlie attended the Smith Center School in the Brushy Lake Community for eight years.
Before entering military service, he worked on the farm.
Charlie was inducted 5 October 1942 at Little Rock, Arkansas and was assigned
as an Automatic Rifleman 746 and was an expert on the MI Rifle. He participated in the
battles in the New Guinea Islands - Luzon. On 18 April 1945 while in the Pacific
Theater, Charlie received wounds that resulted in him being awarded the Purple Heart Medal.
Charlie was discharged 1 December 1945 at the Brooke Army Hospital Center at Fort Sam Houston, (San Antonio) Texas.
In addition to the Purple Heart, he received the following awards: the Good Conduct Medal; the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal; the Philippine Liberation Ribbon; the World War II Victory Medal; the Combat Infantryman Badge and the American Theater Service Medal.
Charlie returned to Cross County, Arkansas and resumed
farming until he started working as a mechanic in the Cross County School. He worked at Cross County High School until he retired.
He married Laura Mae Swindle and they had two children: Harvey and Cathy.
Charlie Marshall Glass died 16 June 1992 and was buried in Lewis Cemetery, near Hickory Ridge, Arkansas.
