Purple Heart

      William D. Glispie was born 11 November 1919 in Dublin, Mississippi.  He farmed for four years after completing his education. He was inducted into the Army 4 December 1942 at Camp Robinson, Arkansas.  During his basic training, he earned the Rifle Expert Marksman Medal 15 February 1943.  William left the States 21 September 1944 and arrived at the European African Middle East Theater (EAME) 18 October 1944.  His occupational specialty was Mess Cook. Company C, 371st Infantry Regiment, 92nd Division was his assigned organization upon arrival in Europe.  He participated in some of the major battles in Europe which included the North Apennines Campaign and the Po Valley Campaign.  During the intense fighting in the Po Valleyof Italy, William was wounded by enemy fire 14 February 1945 and was awarded the Purple Heart in the 177th EVAC Hospital 15 February 1945.  William left the EAME Theater 16 November 1945 and arrived in the States 26 November 1945.  He was discharged 1 December 1945 at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.  In addition to the Purple Heart, he was awarded the Po Valley Campaign Ribbon with one Bronze Star; the North Apennines Campaign Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal.
