      Myron W. "Tiller" Mann was born 27 September 1923 in  Cherry Valley , Arkansas, the third son of John and Bessie Dye  Mann. He grew up with two brothers, Robert and Milton, and one sister, Elizabeth. Myron attended Cherry Valley Elementary and High Schools, graduating in 1942 and the  Moler Barber School.
     Myron joined the SeaBees 14 December 1942. After basic training, by Marines, in Virginia he was assigned to Naval Construction Battalion Unit 503 and shipped to the Pacific Theater to serve in the Fiji islands. This unit maintained a tank farm and refueled the fleet; also built roads and boat pools. He was later transferred to the Peleliu Islands to help with the mop-up behind the Marines, who had secured the island. Some of the Japanese were "holed up" in caves on the island and remained there until the end of the war. Several letters of commendation were issued to the C.B.M.U. 503 c/o Lieutenant W.L. McFadden, copies of which are contained in a commemorative book, a copy of which was issued to each member of the C.B.M.U. 503. Myron was discharged in October 1945.
    After the war, Myron returned to Cherry Valley to live and raise his family. He is married to the former Mary Lee Spence and they have two children, Barbara and Myron, Jr. Myron has been a farmer, a barber and in the trucking industry .He retired in 1976 due to a massive heart attack with subsequent by-pass surgery and other heart attacks and a stroke, from which he recovered. He gardens and maintains the yard and enjoys his two granddaughters. Myron and Mary Lee live in Harrisburg, Arkansas.
