Donald
W. "Duck" Mahon was born 19 November 1922 in Stuttgart, Arkansas, the son of Roy
and Lois
Hertel Mahon. He grew up in Hickory Ridge with three brothers and one sister. Duck was a
1942 graduate of Hickory Ridge High School and for a short time worked on the farm.
Donald was enrolled in the Air Force 20 November 1942 at Memphis,
Tennessee. He trained in Georgia and at the Presidio at San Francisco, California. He was
separated from service 4 January 1946 at Scott Field, Illinois and was entitled to wear
the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal World War II.
After the war, Donald returned to Hickory Ridge, married Evelyn A.
Moore and their children are Loretta S. and Roger A. Mahon. He attended an Agricultural
Program for Veterans. He began farming and his hobby was building. The first home he built
was destroyed in the 1952 tornado that hit Hickory Ridge. He rebuilt, only to have that
home destroyed by the 1954 tornado. His hobby then became a business, and in 1962, he and
his family moved to Tucson, Arizona and he really got involved in construction.
Donald W. Mahon died in Tucson, Arizona on 9 November 1993, his
remains were brought back to Hickory Ridge and buried in Lewis Cemetery .
