       J. L. Shaver (Jim) Shaver, Jr. was born 23 November 1927 in Wynne, Arkansas, the only son of J .L. (Bex) and Louise Shaver. Jim grew up in Wynne with his sister, Winnie Bob.
    Upon graduation from Wynne High School in June of 1945, he volunteered for the Navy.  Jim entered the service 25 June 1945, and was sent to "boot camp" at Great Lakes. He passed the Navy "Eddy Test" while in High School and was supposed to attend the Navy's electronics school in Chicago. However, the war ended while he was in "boot camp" and he was discharged at Millington Naval Air Station on 14 February 1946.
    Jim is married to Bonnie Wood and their children are Jimmy Shaver (deceased) and Bonnie Sue. After graduation from the University of Arkansas Law School in 1951, he practiced law in Wynne with his father, J.L. (Bex) Shaver until his death in 1985 and with Tom B. Smith, his nephew.  Tom B. died in 1999.
    Jim's father served as Lt Governor from 1943-46 and he served as Speaker of the Arkansas House of Representatives in 1977-78. They both served as President of the Arkansas Bar Association.
